Q: I have a GRP long keeled yacht which is in salt water. Your selector recommended a ZD77 anode. There was also a shaft anode fitted but having refitted the shaft correctly, there is now insufficient shaft now available for a full shaft anode. You don't recommend the shaft anode is this because the ZD77 will provide sufficient protection?

The ZD77 hull anode should be sufficient as long as your bonding wires are in good condition and are providing a good low resistance connection to the prop and shaft. Shaft anodes are effective as they attach directly to the item to be protected (no worries with bonding) but will waste rapidly due to their size and prop action. A belt and braces set would be both anodes fitted, however if you are confident on the condition of the connection to the hull anode this should be fine for a season.
