Aluminium Boat Anodes
The main benefit of an aluminium anode is that the high nominal electrical capacity, which is three times higher than the same mass in zinc. This means that you require significantly less aluminium anodes than you would zinc anodes, making it easier to manage their underwater installation or subsequent replacement.
Because of this, aluminium anodes are hugely popular in industrial sectors such as offshore platforms or pipeline systems where long-term protection is required. In addition, aluminium anodes are also used commercially on vessels such as cargo ships, tankers and cruisers, where there are long periods between planned dry dock activity. Furthermore, aluminium anodes are highly recommended for hulls which remain permanently immersed in water (barges, houseboats, etc).
Recently, many outboard engine manufacturers have switched to aluminium anodes from zinc because they are cadmium free, making them more environmentally friendly.
