Propeller Anodes For Boats
Propeller anodes are a type of sacrificial anode specifically designed to protect the propellers of vessels from corrosion. The anodes are typically made of a more active metal such as zinc, aluminium or magnesium, which will corrode before the more passive metal (e.g. bronze or stainless steel) of the propeller.
When the propeller anode is installed, it creates an electrical circuit between the anode and the propeller. The anode will corrode preferentially, instead of the propeller. The corrosion process will cause the anode to gradually dissolve, releasing electrons into the surrounding water. These electrons will neutralize any stray electrical charges that may be present in the water, preventing corrosion from occurring on the propeller.
Propeller anodes are an important part of maintaining the longevity of a boat or ship's propellers. It is recommended to check and replace the anodes on a regular basis as part of the routine maintenance of a marine vessel.
