Zinc Ball Shaft Anodes
Zinc ball shaft anodes are manufactured in a classic golf ball like shape and keep your shaft protected from galvanic corrosion by sacrificing themselves, which is where the term 'sacrificial anode' derives from. The zinc shaft anodes are typically attached to the shaft of your boat using stainless steel bolts, as stainless steel is a non-corrosive alloy.
By zinc anodes sacrificing themselves instead of the metal components they are protecting, the shaft anodes will help to extend the life of the boat's propulsion system and prevent costly repairs. Zinc anodes should only be used in salt water - if you need anodes for fresh water, we suggest purchasing magnesium ball shaft anodes, or alternatively aluminium ball shaft anodes which can be used in salt or fresh water.
