Bow and stern thrusters are a vital component of your vessel, making it easier to control and manoeuvre in tight spaces, especially when reversing. As they're underwater, bow and stern thrusters are prone to corrosion - which is where thruster anodes come in.
Magnesium is a more reactive metal than those used on your bow or stern thruster, it will sacrifice itself and corrode, instead of your thruster. Magnesium anodes are suitable for use in fresh water as there is a lower open circuit potential. Unlike zinc thruster anodes and aluminium thruster anodes, magnesium anodes react rapidly when exposed to seawater, which is why they should only be used in fresh water.
